"It's like you started a party and invited us all in." -Gustavo Sanchez Dear family: I'm fortunate enough to be sitting on a sound stage right now, in the middle of shooting another video game (see pic below). Performance capture is a lot of fun. They put you in a body suit with sensors, they put a ton of dots on your face and you're transformed into a different character in a whole different world. It requires a lot of patience as they put you into the suit, calibrate your range of motion, then draw each dot on your face (which always tickles me to the point that I wanna scratch but can't). But once you're done preparing, there's a lot of freedom. I'm still working at being comfortable in that freedom both on and off the stage. But I'm getting there! Joshua and I are working hard to push our own comfortability and embrace a freedom (on stage and on screen) that we've been developing for several years now. Since returning to his native Los Angeles in 2016, he has released two musical projects (his six and seventh, notably), and cultivated a petite hullabaloo in the rap and electronic music scene. His live performances and recorded works are available in extra-high-definition and honesty (including verbose in select countries), and have earned the praises of LA Record Magazine, LA Weekly, and AFROPUNK. Unwavering, unpublished, and oft unintelligible, he is currently at work on a manuscript of indeterminate inflammability, a musical textbook, and various visual accouterments. Some fun shows happening SOON! View this email in your browser Dear Family: First of all, I'm totally channeling my mother in this picture. My facial expression, the way I'm holding her hands. Totally my mom. That said... This woman, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, is one of the coolest people ever! She's so friendly and present and down to earth! And a Princeton Latina! Que viva! I got to perform for her at the Princeton Latino Alumni Conference held last month. In the photo, I'm sharing with her greetings from Professor Nancy Malkiel, a mentor of hers, who was also my thesis advisor. I found out that Sonia struggled early on at Princeton (as I did) and she went to Professor Malkiel for assistance (as I did). A pretty cool connection. :-) On stage, I told the Justice that I had seen her graduation photo on a wall of famous Princeton graduates earlier that day and I had to tell her...she is easily the sexiest Princeton graduate ever! She got such a kick out of the comment, smiling and laughing! I also had fun with Ted Cruz's twitter account. Cruz is a Latino Princeton graduate who was supposed to attend the conference but canceled at the last minute. So I tweeted him a photo of all of us from stage. HA! (I can't believe I tweeted Ted Cruz.) But that was LAST month! Here's what's happening RIGHT NOW... For the month of May, I am singing in a musical! Hello Again by Michael John LaChiusa is based on the 1897 play La Ronde by Arthur Schnitzler (also titled Reigen). It focuses on a series of love affairs among ten characters during the ten different decades of the 20th century.
