I want to tell you about two events that I have coming up!
1) Tonight - July 11th at 7pm - Dance DTLA is back for the summer and at full-speed! I hosted the opening back in June but, alas, didn't get a chance to announce it. (For the most up-to-date information on my shows, I encourage you to follow me on IG/FB and check out my stories! Its proven to be a quick way to let folks know where I'll be!)
Tonight, I'll be at the Music Center's Jerry Moss Plaza hosting and doing my best to improve my salsa moves! If you've never been to Dance DTLA, it's a fun and free event where you learn dance moves from a wonderful dance instructor (this week the amazing Leslie Ferreira), then a DJ plays and you dance late into the night! RSVP here! (If you come, stop by the side of the stage to say hi!)
2) Thursday, July 17th at 4pm - State of the City - It's the 150th anniversary of the City of Santa Monica and also the re-opening of the Miles Memorial Playhouse! This is exciting news for LA teens! Since the fall of 2001, I have been co-running Downbeat 720, an open-mic for teen performers at the Miles Playhouse. The Miles has been closed since the quarantine and Downbeat's been in a temporary space but, starting next year, we'll be back in our home! Yes, for almost TWENTY-FIVE YEARS, every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month, we have worked hard to create a safe and supportive space for teens to express themselves. This Thursday, you'll get a little taste of the program as we host and have two of our students perform! RSVP here!
I love y'all and wish you the best during these surreal and difficult times. Please be with community!
Love,
Joe
p.s. If you're going to the annual UnidosUS Conference in Kansas City this year, I will be hosting a comedy show on opening night! Join us at the historic Folly Theater!
